Mga Anak ng Timog. Children of the South

The exhibition showcases traditional textiles made by different ethnolinguistic groups from the south of the Philippine archipelago. These pieces are part of the private collection of Carmen Murga, who settled in Alicante province after leaving her native city of Zamboanga on Mindanao Island and brought her collection of fabrics and memorabilia with her. The exhibition, which includes photographs by the artist – and curator of the display – María Marí Murga, is intended to shed light on the spirit of the Philippine people. It also marks the signing of the institutional sponsorship agreement between the Consulate of the Republic of the Philippines in Barcelona and the University of Alicante, with the aim of promoting Philippine Studies as a scientific discipline in Spain.

Furthermore, the documentary ¨Mga Anak ng Timog. Hijos del Sur¨ [Children of the South] will be screened at the exhibition. This video project has been created by the Philippine-Spanish artist in collaboration with the Badjao and Sama Banguingui communities from Zamboanga.
