For the Housemates exhibition, the University of Alicante Museum has been transformed into a shared flat where graduates of the Miguel Hernández University Master’s Degree in Art Projects and Research (MUPIA), delivered on the Altea campus, can show their work. Each of the artists will temporarily live in a hypothetical room; these “housemates” will see how their differences give rise to a rich and diverse collective experience that invites us to reflect on coexistence and human relations in an ever more interconnected world that, nevertheless, becomes more and more individualised.
Visitors of the exhibition will wander through the imaginary rooms the housemates live in, exploring the private and common areas. In a shared flat, we would find the personal belongings of each housemate; here, however, we will discover the works of each of the artists, their meanings, emotions, reflections, feelings, experiences and lessons learned. Different art forms have been employed, such as installation, photography, drawing, sculpture, video art or painting.
Living together in a shared flat is often challenging, but these housemates – Ángel Cano Moreno, INANE - César García, Eva Crespo (Xanadú), Ana Jarandilla, Lorena (Kim) Torres, Marta Laviós Baldó, José María Martínez-Abarca Pedreño, Marga Méndez, Elena Morales Carrillo, Sara Navarro, Denisse Pérez Sesé, Raquel S. Lorca and Jorge W. Vasco – have been able to turn that experience, that diversity, into a powerful tool. What they have shared, their disagreements, their debates, their collaboration – these have been the sources of a unique creative energy that goes beyond individual barriers to find new ways of being together and creating collaboratively in a common space.
